Why I chose to join The RPT Young Patrons Circle

Jenny Burton-Johnson

I have been involved with RPT since I was a teenager, having known about the organisation by attending Rugby School, who helped to found RPT in the 1800s.

I’ve been a volunteer, delivering a VR workshop to the Project Athena girls group and speaking with the young people, and I’ve also been a supporter, having attended various events (including the amazing Christmas Market). I’m really proud to now be even more involved with the organisation by being a member of the Young Patrons Circle.

I love to travel the world (I speak French and Spanish) and take long walks with my husband Matt and our miniature poodle, Walnut.

Jenny lives in West London and works as the Commercial Director for Pirical, a people analytics start-up on a mission to help companies make smarter – and fairer – decisions about their people. She’s passionate about how we can use tools, tech and talent to make the world a better place.

Jonathan Damsgaard

I learned about RPT through the Chair of the Board of Trustees. I live locally and, during lockdown, wanted to get involved with a organisation supporting the local community – RPT was the perfect fit. My involvement with RPT grew quickly: I volunteer in their employment workshops, helping young people to write CVs and prepare for interviews, and I talk to young people about careers they’re considering and what we can do to make it a reality. I’ve also joined The Rugby Portobello Foundation Committee, which disperses funds across RPT’s programmes, focusing on giving children and young people experiences outside of North Kensington.

I joined the YPC to help RPT build a young and exciting donor base of like-minded people to further support the fundraising efforts of the organisation in the future.

Jonathan lives locally in West London and works as an Investment Director in a financial services organisation.

Abby Ledes Akesson

I was introduced to RPT almost 5 years ago as a corporate sponsor when I worked for Christie’s. I immediately loved learning about the RPT, working on their fundraising events and seeing their work first-hand.  As a resident of Kensington and Chelsea, the RPT’s emphasis on supporting the local community particularly resonated with me. I especially appreciated their open-door policy and how welcome they made me feel, not just as a sponsor, but as a member of the community.

I am very excited and proud to join the YPC to increase my involvement with the RPT.  I look forward to promoting the charity’s import work and contributing to its development.

Abby is originally from New York City and currently lives in Chelsea with her husband and miniature wire-haired dachshund.  She works for London-based diamond Jeweller Jessica McCormack as VIP Client Advisor to the Founder and Creative Director. In addition to her involvement in the RPT, Abby is a member of the Junior League of London and a Class Fundraising Representative for her alma mater Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City.
